Here Comes The Crab in Hood Canal!

Posted by Thomas Wolter

If you have been patiently waiting (like me) for the Dungeness Crab Season to open your wait is over…..in some places.

The season officially opened yesterday, June 18th in the Southern part of Hood Canal, and will periodically be opening in other locations throughout the next few month or so.  There is nothing like some fresh, succulent crab with your favorite libation to complete an awesome day of recreating in the Hood Canal area.  I like to melt some butter, add garlic and a splash of tabasco to my dip; my wife likes it a little bit milder.

Crabbing rules:

 • The daily catch limit in Puget Sound is five Dungeness crab, males only, in hard-shell condition with a minimum carapace width of 6 1/4 inches.

 • Fishers may catch six red rock crab of either sex per day, provided those crab measure at least 5 inches across.

Whatever your preference the season has begun, so take advantage of it as it seems to pass way too quickly.
