Hood Canal Fishing – Summer Chum Salmon

Posted by Thomas Wolter

The inventory of Chum Salmon is on the rise, due to the help of several temporary hatcheries, and assistance from the hatchery employees.  Last summer, just outside Belfair on the Union River, was a small travel trailer parked for a month or so.  I stopped and talked to the employee, and he told me they were monitoring the “Summer” Chum Salmon run, in an attempt to enhance the population.

Programs have been in place since the late 80’s, and the efforts have yeilded positive results, but apparently, due to recent budget cuts, the “Summer” Chum must now fend for themselves.  For more information click here.
